Recently, the International Society of Automation (ISA) released the latest ISA-95 standard.

The newly released ANSI/ISA-95.00.01 - 2025 (IEC 62264 - 1 Mod) accurately reflects specific functions within the enterprise compared to the 2010 version, draws a clearer boundary between the enterprise and the manufacturing and control fields, and achieves a higher degree of consistency in the details of the standard.

The organization reported that as the world becomes increasingly digital, the 2025 update to ISA-95 Part 1 reflects the continued need for integrated standards. The ISA95 standards committee, which developed the ISA-95 series of standards, strived to take into account the changing industrial landscape when writing the latest revision.

“The trend toward digital transformation is driving the rise of modular architectures across business and manufacturing operations. These architectures are composed of containerized workloads that can scale dynamically and run on-premises, in the cloud, or in hybrid environments. Equally important is the shift toward data-centric architectures, where system data is enriched with metadata that is contextualized based on standards,” explained Christian Monchinski, ISA95 Standards Committee Chair.

“The updated ISA-95 Part 1 reiterates the importance of enabling standardized integration interfaces between these systems. It also reinforces ISA-95’s critical role in providing a shared ontology and semantic model for representing manufacturing operations information. This release provides the global industrial community with the terminology and structural foundation needed to design connected, intelligent, and agile manufacturing systems.”
